Let us wet your whistle. These are the latest and greatest tackle items coming your way — some are available now; others are expected to roll out within the next six months.
This new Sustain’s MagnumLite rotor helps make it super lightweight and delivers faster startup. The MicroModule Gear II creates smoother rotation by refining the surfaces of the gears. Available now; $299 to $309.
If you’re one of the many new anglers to the saltwater game, this combo — an Ugly Stik Bigwater rod with a Penn Pursuit IV reel — will easily dial you in. The combo comes in spin and conventional models (which pair up with Penn Rival reels). The rod blank has been redesigned to incorporate higher-end components such as Fuji K guides. Available in September; $99.95 to $119.95.
The Tern 2 features a pinion-supported bearing design that delivers smoother drag with more power. Centrifugal casting maximizes distance while eliminating backlash. Available in 300/400/500N models in late November; $329.99 to $399.99.
This purpose-built tarpon rod features forward-angle Fuji guides with Fazlite inserts. The double-locking reel seat ensure the reel stays tight to the rod when fighting a big fish. Available in August; $179.99 to $189.99.
Daiwa redesigned Saltist reels now come with a one-piece Monocoque (MQ) aluminum body that makes it more rigid and corrosion resistant. Saltist MQs also come with a Zaion rotor made from a composite material that’s lightweight to reduce wrist fatigue and enhance line pickup. Available now; $299.99.

These new 7- to 12-foot spinning rods are made with an exotic carbon-fiber material that adds significant hoop strength, which keeps the rod section from ovaling under a load. It also employs Veil technology, meaning a tri-blend of carbon fiber, fiberglass and resin is combined to reduce the effects of impact on the blanks. Available in early November; $210 to $380.
